BU vs. GWU - Game Night

While the BU Athletic Dept. was very helpful in trying to attain media credentials for the game, the GW Athletics Dept. was a bunch of bastards. A rant on them coming soon...

But for now, it's game time. I don't get to see too many games in person this year, so this is a treat. Here's hoping BU puts together a complete game and sparks something on the offensive end. My prediction for tonight: a very respectable 60 - 55 loss for BU.

If you're listening in, add your in-game comments here.

Don't be too put-off. I've run a GW website for almost 10 years and the midmajor GW A10 Dept beats me like a fragile porcelain mouse. They have a wonderful grasp of INobvious.

Since this site is a blog, not many places are going to give you guys media passes. I'm suprised that BU's Athletic Dept. was so helpful, most other departments within the conference would just say no and tough luck. Usually, Athletic Depts. will not allow anything that classifies as blog or a fansite credentials. They will allow for interviews with players/coaches if a formal request is put in, but only traditional media sources are given credentials.

Herve is right...you guys should just ask the Vermont guys who run CatamountCountry.com how they are treated by the athletic communications staff.

ginzo - the media credentials would have just been for this blog.. apparently thats why it didnt work out.

herve, anonymous, and uvmer - I understand that it was kind of a longshot to get a media pass, but we really just wanted to go to the post-game press conference. Herve, your site is very good, and I think it would be a good move for Ath. Depts. to encourage independent fan-sites like ours, gwhoops.com, and catamountcountry.com. Unfortunately, for some reason, they can't seem to get by the "risk" of legitimizing these websites. When will they realize that our sites help build fan communities, and there's nothing to fear from them?

I do need to give props to BU's Ath. Dept - I didn't get the interviews, but that was my fault since I wasn't persistent enough (too busy trying to do the Alumni event). Everything else they did was very responsive to us.

So you know, it's an "NCAA thing" not to cred dot-com sites - some SID's (like Bryan and Stephan before him) are just nice and openminded. Trust me, I was turned down more often than I can count, in worse ways than GW Athletics could ever dream up. You can't see the scars, they're all inside.

Great site, by the way. Listen to my first podcast (about 20 minutes in) if you want to hear some Doggy Style love. Wait, that didn't sound right.

Kyle, we appreciate the high praise, esp. coming from you and Yoni. I hadn't gotten to your podcast, but it's great listening (your new site is out of this world, btw).

I'm glad to hear that BU has been one of the more accommodating schools you've worked with - bet you've got more experience than anyone in that area!
